Nighttime Diapers
Cloth nighttime diapers are a great solution for many children and parents. Most cloth nighttime diapers are more absorbent than disposable diapers. If your child is leaking through disposable diapers or daytime cloth diapers, it might be worth looking into using a cloth diaper especially designed for the night.
Nighttime diapers for heavy wetting children
In this category you will find several different brands of diapers that are specifically made for nighttime. They are bigger and larger than regular, daytime diapers. This makes them (much) more absorbent. Drying times do also tend to increase with the level of absorption.
If you have a lighter night wetter, you could opt for a regular fitted diaper. In principle, all fitted diapers are suitable for the night, although one is more absorbent than the other. On our page with absorbency tables, you will also find all fitted diapers and their level of absorption. Apart from that, you can also compare the materials used for the diaper, country of production, certificates and more.
Other diaper systems such as All-In-Ones (AIO), pocket diapers and Snap-In-Ones (SIO) are generally speaking less suitable for the night. There are a few exceptions such as the Mother-ease Bedwetter Pants and Kijani Pull-Up diapers.
To make nighttime diapers like the the Petit Lulu Maxi/Night and Modern Cloth Nappies Bamboo Hemp diaper waterproof, you will need a cover or wool cover. Kijani Pull-up diapers, Mother-ease Bedwetter Pants and Super Undies Chameleon diapers already have a waterproof layer and do not need a cover. A two-part system with a separate fitted diaper and a cover is generally speaking more absorbent than a one-piece diaper.
When do you need a nighttime diaper?
When your child is still a newborn you will change him or her relatively often. Also, a young baby usually poops around every feed, including at night, so they will be changed a lot. During this time, you can simply use daytime diapers for the night. When your baby starts sleeping longer stretches of time or does not need to be changed as often at night, you can start thinking about nighttime diapers.
Many children can do with an extra absorbent fitted with a high quality cover. Examples are Petit Lulu Fluffy Organic One Size, Ecoposh One Size, Popolini MaxiSnap and the Hu-Da bamboo diaper. For some children, even a little less absorbent fitted diapers are sufficient for nighttime. If your child does leak through its diaper, you can start by adding an extra booster, or a thicker cover. Thicker covers have a double layer of PUL, like Buttons and the Petit Lulu pull up pants. Wool covers protect even better against leakage.
If all this does not suffice for your child, you can choose to buy nighttime diapers that you will find in this category.
