Comfortable and unobtrusive depending on the inserts chosen.
I have taken in a few different sizes and colorways myself, which is why I am writing the review with this white one.
My measurements:
pants size 34inch waist
length 190cm
weight 85kg (light tummy and no spindly legs)
S Flamingo
XS Forest animals + Turtle
Regarding sizing:
Of the size XS, I just barely fit at the extreme of the Velcro. It may be relatively tight and then form some slight stretch marks, but is still much more comfortable than an overly tightly taped disposable version.
So basically I'm in a size that falls just between XS and S myself if I want it to fit perfectly the way I like it.
My guess for relatively narrow but still larger users, up to 80cm size xs will still fit fine.
I myself am around 87cm and would have preferred another 2cm clearance on either side of the fabric for comfortable tightness. My hand can still get in between on both sides and thus takes off the little bit of pressure that causes slight stretch marks.
Comfort:
These are more comfortable than the 2in1 variety. This is not surprising since the pre-shaped trench insert of the 2 in 1 does not always sit comfortably under my sit bones while sitting. Also, the 2 in 1 has the flap on the front where the insert is attached, this is a minimal extra pressure point that you can feel (very slightly) when lying down.
Drawbacks?
The only disadvantage is that the pocket is wet after use and must be washed. This is the advantage of the more expensive superundies / threadedarmor with interchangeable inserts (pants with or without snaps) just like the blumchen 2in1 variant. If you wipe it dry after the PUL layer gets wet and let it air out for a while, it can be used again the next round without smelling if you have extra inserts.
Invisibility under clothing:
These are much less visible provided you don't stuff it completely with inserts to make it last longer.
Because of the invisibility factor depending on the inserts used, this is fine for me for short moments in and around the house. With the advantage that these are cheaper to buy the waterproof layer. In which washing the pocket of these can be seen as a disadvantage if you want to wash the outer layer less often, or so as an advantage if you always want clean on.
short summary:
Price / quality / comfort just great, but I still fall a bit in between sizes with my build for my feeling. For me personally I find the threaded armor pants with snaps just that bit more comfort and convenience than these, only they are a bit more expensive so budget technically not useful for everyone.
Number of absorption levels that fit that I have tried myself:
Size XS: (inserts completely fill the pocket, do not try larger sizes)
1x blumchen microfiber XS (with jeans a size larger virtually invisible)
2x blumchen microfiber XS (on jeans one size bigger, it begins to show slightly)
1x blumchen microfiber XS, 1x blumchen organic cotton prefold L , 1x blumchen stay dry bamboo XS. (in jeans one size larger not really invisible, but might just get away with it depending on the rest of the clothes)
Size S: (you can play around with different insert sizes as the length of the pocket is considerably larger)
1x blumchen microfiber S (with jeans a size larger virtually invisible)
1x blumchen microfiber S, 1x blumchen stay dry bamboo S (when wearing jeans one size larger it starts to become somewhat visible)
1x blumchen microfiber S, 1x blumchen stay dry bamboo L (for jeans one size larger starts to become slightly visible, staydry size l really just fits and fills the pocket from front to back completely up to the elastic)
1x blumchen microfiber S, 1x blumchen organic cotton prefold L , 1x blumchen stay dry bamboo L. (in jeans a size larger not really invisible, everything tight in the front against the elastic band, being a man, because of the different layers the thickness tapers off from front to back, the prefold size L stops just where the buttocks start, the microfiber runs a little further up to and including the buttocks and the stay dry bamboo runs all the way to the top)
For info from blumchen: I prefer to use the pockets during the day, the two in 1 I prefer to use at night.
This is because as a tummy/side sleeper, I still miss some in the front with the pockets and notice some rash on some of the seams of the Velcro when the inserts are saturated.
I can use threaded armor all day because of the good anti-leak edges depending on the thickness of the package.
